MATERIALS Yarn: 9 (10, 10, 11, 12) balls Furlana Eggplant, 109 yds / 50 gr, 3 (4, 4, 5, 5) balls Possum Paints Quarry Hill, 109 yds / 50 gr, 1 ball Furlana Bluestone, 109 yds / 50 gr (Possum Worsted may be substituted for the Furlana, but gauge differs at 4.5 per 1) Gauge: 17 sts and 27 rows to 4 over pattern Needles: Size 7 24 Circular needle, Size 7 straight needles, Crochet Hook size F / 5 Notions: 8 - 5/8 buttons Large safety Pins Stitch Markers Optional: Size 7 double pointed or 16 circular needles if you plan to work sleeves in the round. INSTRUCTIONS Lower Border - Right Half With Quarry Hill and straight needles, cast on 3 sts. Row 1: Knit into front and back of 1st stitch, knit to end of row. Repeat Row 1 until there are 21 sts. Next Row: (RS) Knit into front and back of 1st stitch, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog. Place 2 safety pins on this side to mark it as the right side of the right border. Following row: (WS) Knit. Repeat these two rows until long edge measures 17 (19 , 21 , 23 , 25). End with a wrong side row. Place stitches on holder. Your choice whether you cut the yarn or not. Lower Border - Left Half Work as above until there are 21 sts. Next row: (RS) K2tog. knit to last stitch. Knit into the front and back of last stitch. Place 1 safety pin on this side to mark it as the right side of the left border. Following row: (WS) Knit. Repeat these two rows until the border is the same size as the other border. End with a wrong side row.

Place stitches in holder. Cut the yarn. With right sides facing up, sew the two borders together along the vertical sides. The ridges will meet to form an inverted V. Body Place the border right side up with the short side at the top. Using the 24 needle and Eggplant yarn, pick up 117 (133, 149, 166, 182) sts along the short horizontal side. Mark the center st and place markers after the first 2 sts and before the last 2 sts. These are edge sts and are worked in st st. The chart is worked in between the markers. Begin chart, starting with a p row. When complete chart has been worked 4x, then knit 1 row. Bind off for armholes as follows. (RS) Work 20 (22, 24, 28, 32) sts. Place safety pin, bind off 10 (14, 18, 18, 18) sts, work 57 (61, 65, 74, 82) sts, place safety pin, bind off 10 (14, 18, 18, 18) sts, work 20( 22, 24, 28, 32) sts to end. The safety pins show where to join the yarn when these sections are worked. Place right front and back sts on holders or scrap yarn. Left Front Purl across left front in pattern. On RS, work 2 sts at armhole, K2 tog, finish row in pat. Every RS row dec 1 st at armhole 3 (3, 5, 5, 5) times more. Work 2 complete repeats of chart from bind off for armhole, then work the first 7 rows of the next pattern repeat. Work 8 (8, 12, 12, 12) more rows in st st. End with WS row. Bind off. Right Front Transfer right front sts to circular needle. Join yarn and purl across in pat.On RS, work in pat to last 4 sts. Work dec as ssk, k2. Continue as for left front. Back Transfer back section sts to circular needle. Join yarn and purl across in pattern. On RS, work 2 sts, ssk, work to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2. Every RS row, dec 1 st at each armhole 3 (3, 5, 5, 5) times more. Work 1 complete repeat of chart after armhole bind off. Mark 17 sts on each side of the center. Work the sts between the markers in st st for 1 repeat of the chart. The embellishments will fill in this space. Resume the full pattern on the next repeat working 7 rows of the pattern. Work 8 ( 8, 12, 12, 12) more rows in st st. Bind off. Sleeve Borders Make two. Work as for lower border, increasing to 15 sts. Continue as for lower border until long edge measures 9 ( 9 , 11 , 11 , 11 ) Decrease 1 st at the beginning and end of right side rows. Knit on wrong side rows. Work until 3 sts remain. Knit 3 tog. Fasten off. If you want to work sleeves in the round, sew the ends of the border together now to form a circle. Otherwise, work sleeve and then sew border seam when you sew sleeve seam.

Sleeves With Eggplant, pick up 41 (41, 61, 61, 61) sts around/along top edge of border. If working in the round, place marker and join. All increases are worked after the first 3 sts and before the last 3 sts. Place markers if desired. Sizes 36 and 40: Inc at each end every 4th row 3x, every 6th row 6x then every 4th row 5x to 69 sts. Work until 11 from pick up. Sizes 44, 48, 52: Work even for 8 rows then increase at each end every 8th row 8x to 77 sts. Work 13 from pick up. At beginning of the next 2 rows,bind off 5 ( 7, 9, 9, 9) sts. Decreases are worked after the first 3 sts and before the last 3 sts. Size 36: Dec at each edge every other row 17x then every row 4x. Work 3 rows even then bind off 17 sts. Size 40: Dec at each edge every other row 15x then every row 4x. Work 6 rows even then bind off 17 sts. Sizes 44, 48 and 52: Dec at each edge every other row 20x. Work 4 rows even then bind off 19 sts. Sew shoulders together. Left Front Border With Quarry Hill and straight needles, pick up sts previously placed on holder so last st on needle is the st closest to sweater body. Join yarn if necessary. Row 1: With right side facing up and using right hand needle, pick up 1 st between 1st and 2nd sts of the body edge. Keep this stitch on the right needle. Knit to last 2 sts. Knit 2tog. Row 2: Knit. Repeat these 2 rows until the last body stitch picked up is the center back. Begin decreasing 1 st at the beginning and end of right side rows. Knit on wrong side rows. Work until 3 sts remain. Knit 3tog. Fasten off. Right Front Border With Quarry Hill and straight needles, cast on 3 sts. Increase for lower border until there are 21 sts. Next row: beginning at center , with right hand needle, pick up 1 st in body of sweater right beside stitch in center back. Keep it on the right needle. Knit to last 2 sts, knit together. Following row: Knit Assembly Join the two borders by sewing together at center back. If you worked the sleeves in rows, sew the sleeve border and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

Body Edging With right side facing up and using Bluestone, work one row of double crochet around border. Work an extra stitch at each corner of the border. With Eggplant work one row of single crochet around border, working an extra st at corners. Mark placement of buttons. The first button is placed 18 above the bottom edge. Work second row of single crochet with Eggplant, working buttonhole at markers. Each buttonhole is chain 3. With Bluestone, work a row of double crochet around border. Sew on buttons. Sleeve Edging With right side facing up and using Eggplant , work a row of double crochet. With Bluestone work two rows of single crochet. With Eggplant work a row of double crochet. Embellishments Make circle: With Quarry Hill, cast on 3 sts. Knit first st twice, knit last 2 sts tog. Next row: Purl Repeat these 2 rows until the work measures 19 Bind off. Leave a long tail to use in sewing. Sew the end to beginning. Block into circle that is 7 in diameter. Center the circle in the blank space on the back of the sweater. Sew in place. Make Butterflies: With Quarry Hill, cast on 1 st. Row 1: Knit, Purl and knit into the stitch to make it into 3 sts. Row 2: p1, k1, p1 Row 3: k1, yo, p1, yo, k1 Row 4: p2, k1, p2 Row 5: k2, yo, p1, yo, k2 Row 6: p3, k1, p3 Row 7: K3, yo, p1, yo, k3 Row 8: P4, k1, p4 Row 9: K4, yo, p1, yo, k4 Row 10: P5, k1, p5 Bind off. Leave a long yarn tail to use in sewing the butterflies to the sweater. Make one more butterfly with Quarry Hill and two butterflies with Bluestone. Block Butterflies into triangle shape. Position butterflies inside the circle so the tails point to the center of the circle. Place the Quarry Hill butterflies at the North and South positions. Place the Bluestone butterflies at the East and

West positions. Sew in place. With contrasting yarn, work chain stitch up spine of each butterfly. Make lazy daisy loops for antennae.
