P3 Funding Denied
The City of Calgary was advised Thursday, November 24, through the Mayor's Office, that it has been denied the PPP Canada funding of $99.6 million. The funding was to be allocated to building four desperately needed sport and recreation centres in the city. In a press conference attended by the media, community advisory group leaders and Sport Calgary, Mayor Nenshi expressed the huge disappointment felt by Calgary. "More than 300,000 Calgarians are negatively affected by this decision" Nenshi said. The Mayor encouraged Calgarians to express their disappointment with their Members of Parliament. An online petition has been started, if you would like to voice your opinion on the decision, please do so through this method. The City remains committed to creating alternative funding options for these facilities, as quickly as possible. For more information about the P3 sport and recreation centres follow this link.
