Abstract The main purpose for this experiment is to demonstrate principles of GMAW process with correct technique to execute

a welding process. Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a welding process which joins metals by heating the metals to their melting point with an electric arc. The arc is between a continuous, consumable electrode wire and the metal being welded. The arc is shielded from contaminants in the atmosphere by a shielding gas. The function of a shielding gas is to protect the molten metal and the electrode end against atmospheric contamination. Weld bead shape depends on gun angle, direction of travel, electrode extension (stickout), travel speed, thickness of base metal, wire feed speed (weld current) and voltage. As the result, our weld production is not good enough because we did not have better skill how to weld very well. Hence, more experiences are required to produce a better weld. As safety precaution, we must wear head shield to prevent from UV rays brightness and smoke or fumes during welding process. Wear dry, hole-free insulating gloves and body protection. Moreover, do not touch electrode if we are in contact with the work, ground or another electrode from a different machine. Be alert that welding sparks and hot materials from welding can easily go through small cracks and openings to adjacent areas. At last but not least, do not weld in locations near degreasing, cleaning, or spraying operations. The heat and rays of the arc can react with vapors to form highly toxic and irritating gases.
