 About Elgi

Elgi Equipments belongs to a group of companies that was founded by Mr. LRG Naidu
in 1918. The first business was bus services that started with one bus and eventually
grew to a large fleet of 300 buses. Later on, an airline service was introduced with six
air planes. After gaining Independence from the British, the new government of India
decided to take over some essential services from the private sector. Bus services and
airline services were one of them. As a consequence of nationalization, Mr. Naidu had
to hand over his business to the Government of India.
In 1947, the next generation of the family entered the business and decided to venture
into manufacturing. They started a company to manufacture automotive chains with
a technology license from a German company. Today this company is one of the
leaders in India for automotive and industrial chains.
The next business they started was to manufacture automotive service
equipment. This was Elgi Equipments. As part of automotive service,
there was a need for air compressors for inflating tyres. Elgi started
manufacturing small piston-type of air compressors with a license from
Pumpenfabrick Urach located in Germany. Subsequently Elgi developed a
wider range of piston compressors on its own. In 1980, it signed a license
agreement with Sullair Corp of USA to manufacture screw compressors.
Elgi was the first company to introduce screw compressors in India. Over
the last 20 years Elgi has developed its own technology to design and
produce state of the art screw compressors and is successfully competing
with global leaders in many markets in the world.

Elgi ‘s success is due to its enduring partnerships with employees, customers, distributors, suppliers, shareholders and the society. Elgi
is probably the only factory in the whole of India that does not have a union and this is achieved because of a family relationship that
Elgi maintains with its employees. The company has built strong brand loyalty because of its strong service focus in its engagement
with customers. Elgi has one of the longest standing relationships with distributors, many of whom have been exclusive distributors for
Elgi since it commenced business. Elgi’s supply base is very strong and has been built over many years of trust and development. Elgi is
one of the top 20 companies in terms of return to its shareholders. In 1983 it was rated as number 2 in India in terms of total return to
shareholders. Elgi takes its social responsibility seriously. It funds the running of two schools and has various programs for education
and medical charity for the needy.

offers a strong sales and service network of 14 domestic and 6 overseas offices, besides a well-knit distribution network of 114
dealers in India and 165 distributors worldwide. In addition to manufacturing facilities in India, Elgi has manufacturing facilities in
China and France. Elgi has also set up warehouse facilities in Brazil and Middle East.
