ACCOMPANYING NOTES

This solo-guitar version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow is based on Tommy Emmanuels guitar arrangement from the Endless Road album, but it is substantially facilitated and adapted. The vast majority of the most challenging passages have been smoothed out or removed altogether, including the marvellous harp harmonics runs that Tommy Emmanuel included in the intro, interlude and outro of his amazing recording. I am well aware that what tampering with Emmanuels work can be perceived as being somehow sacrilegious because TEs interpretation of this classic is indeed a masterpiece of guitar music and, in the eyes of many, including myself, is what TE is really about. Yet, I decided to carry out this project and disseminate the results anyway, very humbly, and with a religious respect for TEs work on this piece. The fact that my facilitated version remains, in my opinion, still pleasant to listen to is an indication on how absolutely wonderful the original score is. Intermediate level fingerstyle players who wanted to play TEs version but found it too taxing may benefit from the version I prepared.
