#17 Responses to #6 Memoir

The memoir I reviewed gave a 'little narrative with very speciIic stories and examples
Irom their past. The closest group that I could place the writer in would be a success story. It
seems their Ireshman year they had a teacher who had given an assignment the Iirst day and
given low scores to everyone to introduce them to high school. This had to opposite oI the
teachers intended eIIect and de-motivating the student. The student`s sophomore year didn`t
improve much over their Ireshman year. It seems that things turned around the third year oI high
school Ior the student. Finally the student was paired with a teacher who emphasized writing and
pushed her students to become better. Throughout the school year the student`s writing improved
culminating with the ability to easily achieve an 'A grade on a given writing assignment. This
success story was repeated senior year when the student had the same teacher as beIore.
Throughout that year their writing only improved Iurther.
The individual placed a great importance in their ability to write essays. I could possibly
see them missing the importance oI reading while Iocusing so much on writing. Literacy to me is
the combination oI reading and writing. The two go hand in hand to make you well rounded.
Although throughout the paper the student demonstrated a strong vocabulary so they could not
be missing out on much Irom their view.
From what I have read the student should primarily concentrate on new ways to expand
their writing style. In our Iirst day oI class it was explained that we would not be writing the Iive
paragraph essays oI high school. It seems this is where they had previously succeeded. I believe
projects like this one will greatly improve the writer`s style. Being open to review and trying
new things will only serve to improve their already solid ability.
