The Iirst is to make an

outline, emphasizing what the purpose oI the report is and what you hope to accomplish with this
report. Make a Iramework oI your report so you will know what areas you will be Iocusing on,
then you can put them in some sort oI order.

AIter the outlining is done, the main body oI the report and the appendixes should be written
next. Start with the parts that are the easiest -- the sections that you Ieel most comIortable
writing. This will help to build on your conIidence so that the rest oI your report doesn't seem too
overwhelming. This will be added-to and tweaked as you go along, but make sure that your Iirst
draIt isn't too rough -- the more polished your Iirst draIt, the better your Iinal draIt will be.

AIter you write the main body and the appendix, take some time beIore returning to improve
them -- this will allow you to be more objective and see mistakes that you might otherwise have
missed. Try to put yourselI in your target audience's shoes as you read, looking at your tone and
making sure that you are accomplishing your objectives. Now is the time to be your own worst
critic.

Write the introduction. It should include everything you would like your readers to know beIore

Write the recommendations and conclusions. Make sure the conclusions oI your report have a

based on your conclusions. Your audience should be able to see a logical progression oI ideas --

Write your summary last. The summary should clearly state the Iindings and opinions Irom your
report. The main Iacts oI your report, the recommendations and conclusions should all be
reiterated here.

Get a second, third and Iourth opinion. BeIore your report is submitted, it's best to have others
look at it. Even iI you've prooIread it a million times, there will still be things that you may miss,
which is why you need others to look at your report.
