Discussion Questions

3.1 Data sources and destinations: customer, the manager.
Data flows: Payment of cash
Transformation process: Entering transaction in the cash register and taking the money

3.2 No, do not agree. Some systems are either too complicated or too simple to be
adequate in documenting a system. Some systems include many levels that flow charts
are needed, which means a DFD won't do. As for simple systems, a DFD may suit it
very well.

3.3 When preparing a DFD, Data sources and destinations should be identified, data
flows, processes and stores should be recognized. This is very simple compared to the
preparation of flowcharts. Flowcharts are a lot more complicated, where input could be
a document, multiple documents or a display, to name a few. Unlike DFDs, there is
more than one process; processes can be online, manual, or auxiliary. There are
multiple stores in flowcharts, such as magnetic drives, magnetic tapes, or files. Data
flows also vary.
