Exam 2 Review Sheet

Exam 2 is Wednesday, August 10. The exam covers Chapter 15, sections 6 - 9 and Chapter 16, sections 1 - 3. As a means for you to prepare for this exam, the following are some sample problems. This sample is reective of the material we covered, but is not inclusive. It is strongly advised you study your lecture notes and the homework problems.

1. Evaluate
E

xzdV,

where E is the solid tetrahedron with vertices (0, 0, 0), (0, 1, 0), (1, 1, 0) and (0, 1, 1). 2. Find the volume of the solid enclosed by the cylinder x2 + y 2 = 9 and the planes y + z = 5 and z = 1.

3. Evaluate
E

xdV,

where E is enclosed by the planes z = 0 and z = x + y + 5 and the cylinders x2 + y 2 = 4 and x2 + y 2 = 9.

4. Evaluate
H

x2 + y 2 dV,

where H is the hemispherical region that lies above the xy-plane and below the sphere x2 + y 2 + z 2 = 1.

5. a) Using the transformation x = au evaluate

E

y = bv

z = cw,

dV,

where E is the solid enclosed by the ellipsoid x2 y 2 z 2 + 2 + 2 = 1. a2 b c b) The Earth is not a perfect sphere; rotation has resulted in attening at the poles. The shape can be approximated by an ellipse with a = b = 6378 km and c = 6356 km. Use part a) to compute the volume of the Earth.

6. Evaluate,
C

yex ds

where C is the line segment joining (1, 2) to (4, 7).

7. Find the work done by the force eld F(x, y) = x sin yi + yj in moving an object along an arch of the cycloid r = (t sin t)i + (1 cos t)j for 1 t 2.
