comelec Facts: the comelec allowed 154 parties to participate in the partylist elections. Petitioner sought the disqualification of respondents on the ground that the partylist intended to benefit only the marginalized sectors of the society. Issue: whether or not respondents be disqualified from the partylist elections on the ground that they are political parties. Held: under the constitution, and ra 7941, respondent cannot be disqualified from the partylist election merely on the ground that they are political parties. Under sec. 7 and 8, art. IX-c of the 1987 constitution, political parties may participate in the election does not mean that any political party may do so. The intent of the constitution is clear to give way to genuine power to the people, not only be giving more laws to those who have less in life, and enabling them to become law makers.
