Curriculum and Enrollment Guidelines for Finance 3502 vs Finance 3101

Please read the following guidelines carefully to determine whether you should enroll in Finance 3101 or 3502. The appropriate finance course is based on your major and whether your academic program falls under the Old Curriculum or the New Curriculum rules.

Finance majors, Real Estate majors, and double majors in either Finance or Real Estate who are registered for Finance 3101: Do not take this course if you are a New Curriculum student. You will not receive credit for Finance 3101 unless you qualify as an Old Curriculum student (see below). All other majors registered for Finance 3502: Only take this course if you plan to complete a Finance minor, which requires Finance 3502, Finance 3503, and two additional finance courses. Otherwise you must take Finance 3101 to meet the Fox Schools finance course requirement.

You will not receive course credit for both Finance 3101 and 3502. Your curriculum is determined by the date and status of your entry when you first enrolled at Temple.

Old Curriculum: Entrance before Fall 2008 as a freshman or before Fall 2010 as a transfer student New Curriculum: Entrance in Fall 2008 or later as a freshman or in Fall 2010 or later as a transfer student

Old Curriculum - Basic Finance and Real Estate Major Requirements: Finance 3011, 3101 and 3503. New Curriculum - Basic Finance and Real Estate Major Requirements: Finance 3502 and 3503.

The finance department will make every effort to register you in the correct course. Please contact Ms. Lynell Burke in the departments suite on the 4th floor of Alter Hall. You must make any required roster change no later than Monday, September 12. If you switch to or add Finance as a major after you enter the Fox School (e.g., you started as an Accounting major and are now adding Finance as a second major), your required curriculum is still based on the year you started at Temple. Note: If you are an Accounting major seeking credits to meet CPA requirements, you should NOT take Fin 3502 since it does not count towards meeting CPA requirements. Fin 3503, however, does count. We urge you to discuss this issue with Professor Sheri Risler in the Accounting Department. Please direct all questions regarding your curriculum to Ms. Debbie Campbell in the Deans Office dcampbell@temple.edu
