Ichthyology

Ichthyology is a branch oI zoology that studies Iish. I like

ichthyology because I like the Iorm oI the Iish`s body, how they
swim and their anatomy. It is Iascinating how they can live in
the sea without breathing. According to FishBase, 31,500
species oI Iish had been described by January 2010. There are
more Iish species than the combined total oI all other
vertebrates: mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. The study
oI Iish receives its origins Irom human's desire to Ieed, clothe,
and equip themselves with useIul implements. According
to Michael Barton, a prominent ichthyologist and proIessor
at Centre College, "the earliest ichthyologists were hunters and
gatherers who had learned how to obtain the most useIul Iish,
where to obtain them in abundance and at what times they might
be the most available". Early cultures maniIested these insights
in abstract art and artistic expressions.
