physical activity, improves appetite and restores interest in NDA). Useful if depression is accompanied by anxiety and insomnia. It may also be used to treat neuralgia. In overdose, amitriptyline may cause coma, fits, and abnormal heart rhythms. Other drug interactions Reduces the effects of anti-epileptics. Drugs with sedative effects intensify those of amitriptyline. There is an increased risk of abnormal heart rhythms when anti-arrhythmic drugs are taken with amitriptyline.

Special precautions An abrupt stop can cause withdrawal symptoms. Alcohol increases the drugs sedative effect. Not recommended for under 16 years for depression or under 6 years for enuresis.
