NGCP Holds Security Drill

Panacan, Davao City The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) District 5 Substation in New Loon, Mintal, Davao City hosted a security drill together with the law enforcements agencies and quick response teams in the city.

The scenario was that some elements of a terrorist group commandeered a vehicle which they used to barge into the facility and took the employees as hostages while negotiating for demands. Troops from the 84th Infantry Battalion acted as the terrorists.

Personnel from the Philippine National Police Region 11 acted as negotiators. Subsequently, teams from the Special Weapons and Tactics Region 11, Task Force Davao Close Quarter Battle Unit, and Task Force Davao Bomb Squad stealthily entered the facility, assaulted the terrorist, rescued the hostages and cleared the area of Improvised Explosive Devices. The rescue 911 evacuated the wounded while the Scene of the Crime Operations Unit of Region 11 secured the crime scene and gathered evidence. The Barangay Police of New Loon controlled the crowd from the perimeter of the facility. Other troops from the 84th Infantry Battalion provided perimeter security.

In a statement, Mr Bryan Yasay, the security manager of NGCP District 5 substation said that this security drill is just one of the series of drills to be conducted by the substation in preparation for any attacks or threats from lawless armed groups. We must be ready at all time to respond and defend this facility from any threats. This facility provides a very important commodity in Davao Region. With the help of our law enforcement agencies, we will continue conducting security drills, he said.
