UPSC CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION 2011, 2012 & 2013


SCHEME OF EXAMINATION STAGE 1: Preliminary Examination STAGE 2: Main Examination STAGE 3: Interview STAGE 1: PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION 2011 MPSC Rajyaseva Preliminary Exam 2011 will be held on 12th Jun 2011 The notification will be published in leading newspapers and Employment News on 19th Feb 2011. This exam will be objective type (Multiple choice questions). There will be 2 question papers; one on General Studies and the other on Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) carrying 200 marks, and 2 hours duration, each.

PAPER I (200 MARKS) DURATION: TWO HOURS


Current events of national and international importance History of India and Indian National Movement Indian and World Geography Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World. Indian Polity and Governance Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc. Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc. General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change that do not require subject specialization General Science.

PAPER II- (200 MARKS) DURATION: TWO HOURS


Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills; Logical reasoning and analytical ability Decision making and problem solving General mental ability Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. -Class X level) English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level). Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (Last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.

The questions will be of multiple choices, objective type. A set of sample questions for both Papers would be put on the UPSC website http://www.upsc.gov.in in due course for reference of the prospective candidates. The prospective candidates are advised to note that no changes are being introduced at this stage in the Civil Services (Main) Examination and Personality Test in the scheme of Civil Services Examination (CSE).

APPLICATION FORM: Application forms will be available in all major Post Offices from 19th Feb 2011. PENALTY FOR WRONG ANSWERS: For each wrong answer, 1/3rd of the marks of that question will be cut as penalty. If you mark 2 answers for 1 question then also same penalty will be applicable and the answer will be taken as wrong answer. No penalty for unanswered questions. EXAM FEE: Rs. 50 /- Open category students. SC/ST candidates are NOT required to pay the fees. Affix single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp on the standard Application Form. STAGE 2: MAIN EXAMINATION 2011 Main examination will be held from 29 Oct 2011 (21 days in total). Total Marks: 2000 (Marks of English and Marathi will not be counted for final result). APPLICATION FORM: Application form for Main examination will be supplied by UPSC, only to those who qualify in the Prelims examination. EXAM FEE: Rs. 100/- Open category students in the form of Central Recruitment Fee Stamp.

Total Marks : 300 FINAL RANKING The total marks obtained by you in the Main examination as well as Interview will determine your final rank.

ELIGIBILITY: Educational Qualification: Any degree or equivalent from any Indian University or other educational institution deemed as a University or possess an equivalent qualification (No restriction on the basis of marks, class or duration of the course.). A candidate in final year of the degree course can also apply in Prelims exam but must provide a proof of the qualification at the time of applying for Main exam in Jul/Aug 2011.

Age: Min 21 years. Max 30 years with 5 years relaxation for SC/ST, and 3 years for OBC. ATTEMPTS: 4 attempts, for open category candidates, 7 attempts for OBCs, and there is no limit on number of attempts for SC/ST candidates. An individual can also join Mission 2012-13 by paying the full-fees. A group of maximum 4 aspirants can join the PGP by paying complete fees (1 member to pay 1/4th of the total fees) in advance. All members of the group need to take same optional subjects at Main exam. If a group of 4 aspirants joins the Mission 2012-13 then different study plan will be given to each member of the group and only 1 set of books will be given to the whole group. ADs IAS Academy provides counseling and all assistance in respect of preparation of the MPSC State Services/STI/PSI Exams and UPSC Civil Services Examinations. No aspirant will be given guidance for any other examination or for any other subject for which he/she is not registered. Shifting of enrolment/registration for exam guidance from MPSC to UPSC and vice versa and no adjustment in fees will be considered under any circumstances.
