Interpersonal Conflict
It may concern to disagreement over organizational objectives, policies and procedures. In an organizational setting, there may be several forms of interpersonal conflict between various levels of management, functional conflict between occupational specialists, professional vs. professional conflict, and so on.

These may interpreted in two forms: 1. Vertical Conflict 2. Horizontal Conflict

Causes Of Interpersonal Conflict


1. Nature Of Persons: The type of persons involved in the interaction process determine to a great extent the degree to which the interaction may be cooperative or conflicting. -Ego States -socio-cultural factors 2. Situational Variables: The various factors generate the conditions under which the persons having personal differences may heighten these or may sink these differences. -Interest conflict -Role ambiguity

Managing Interpersonal Conflict


It is diagnostic process, interpersonal styles, negotiation of strategies, and other interventions that are designed to avoid unnecessary conflict and reduce or resolve excessive conflict.

Steps to Manage the Conflict


1. Establishing Common Goals 2. Changing Structural Arrangement -Reduction in Interdependence - Reduction in Shared Resources -Exchange of Personnel -Reference to Superiors Authority 3. Conflict Resolution -Problem Solving -Avoidance -Smoothing -Compromise -Confrontation -Negotiation
