Name of the student: - Said Elias Rahimi Entry No: 2011CEZ8006 Department: Civil Engineering

The progress of the course work and research work carried out during the 1st semester 2011-2012 is reported below.

A. COURSE WORK: Required course work of 6 credits has been completed in this semester. Course No CEL719 CEL734 HUL810 Title Structural Dynamics Numerical and Mathematical Methods Communication Skill Credit Grade Obtained 3 Audit Audit B NP NP

B. RESEARCH WORK: The proposed area of the research work has been decided as Effective Placement and Tuning of Multiple Tuned Mass Damper (MTMD) for Mitigation of Building Vibrations. 1- Literature has been reviewed in the following areas. a- Vibration controlling of building by using TMD. b- Vibration controlling of building by using MTMD. 2- Introduction has been prepared for controlling vibration of building by using different Dampers. 3- Detailed mathematical modeling has been carried out for the problem which has been considered for current investigation.

4- Complete step by step time history analysis of building has been prepared with and without Dampers to resist both earthquake and wind loading. 5- The work has been continued for developing a programming language MATLAB for mathematical modeling of building under various earthquakes and wind loading which it will be under process for further studies.
