Lokayukta raids house of municipal peon

Lokayukta police today raided the house of a Class-IV employee of the Ujjain Municipal Corporation here and found documents showing assets worth Rs 10 crore. The raid on the residence of Narendra Deshmukh was conducted by a Lokayukta team comprising around 15 persons, led by Lokayukta SP Arun Mishra.

Lokayukta Special Establishment Police today raided the residence of a peon-cumstorekeeper of the UjjainMunicipal Corporation (UMC)in Madhya Pradesh and found documents showing assets worth Rs 4.5 crore, besides Rs 1.5 lakh cash. Lokayukta police sources said the raid on Narendra Deshmukh's residence was carried out by a team led by Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta) Arun Mishra.

Mishra said the documents showed that he owned two houses, two cars, a jeep, four twowheelers, onepoultry farm, ten bank accounts, one locker, jewellery worth Rs 1.25 lakh, five acre land in Jalgaon and property in Mumbai besides Rs 1.5 lakh cash. Deshmukh has been posted with the UMC since 1980. When the team reached his house, it had to wait till his pet dog was put on a leash . On learning about the team's arrival, his wife tried to pass on jewellery and other items to neighbours from the roof of their house.

persons, led by Lokayukta SP Arun Mishra. Mishra said although Deshmukh was peon, the documents showed that he owned two houses, 18 'bigha' land, one poultry farm and a farm house. The SP said Deshmukh also had shares in a factory and a hotel in Mumbai in addition to ten bank accounts and land in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.
