This project aims to explore the possibility of projecting the concept of a zen garden within contemporary context.
We have chosen the meditative rhythm and abstract experience with the Zen garden as the focus of this land art. The choice of medium was grass and natural materials such as wood.
The use of grass here draws a parallel with the use of pebbles in a Zen garden to represent water. Viewers are encouraged to try and discover the paradox found within the art work.
The land art is situated at the top of the ADM building. In order to view the actual work, one is required to make a steep climb up the slopes.
We had to deal with transferring the meaning onto a medium different from the rocks and pebbles used in the Zen Garden. We settled on using grass since it is as abundant as pebbles. With grass, we were also able to transfer from Zen garden the paradox of using dead objects to represent life.
