INDUSTRY DEFINED PROBLEMS-GE

INTRODUCTION The search for unconventional energy sources has been going on for decades. Though we have a number of alternatives to fossil fuels already, we are still in pursuit of something better. You now have the chance to explore a new source of energy, one that is still in the pipeline. PROBLEM STATEMENT Developed nations and many developing countries have a vast network of pipelines carrying compressed fluids, be it oil, natural gas or even water. Imagine a situation when the flow properties of fluids can be tapped for generation of practical useful and feasible Energy Solutions. If we could extract this energy without hampering the properties of the pipe or the media flowing within these pipes, even better. Do you think this is possible? We challenge you to give a conceptual system design to demonstrate a feasible solution to extract, transport and use the energy from a network of pipelines carrying pressurized fluids. Event Format This event will be held in two stages. Preliminary Round: Participants should send a detailed write up on their ideas before 22nd September. Final Round: Teams will be shortlisted based on their report. The shortlisted teams will have to make a ten minute presentation of their design during Shaastra. The details of the final round will be sent to the shortlisted teams later.
