Process Paper

Before we chose our topic, we researched several different topics, such as Henry Fords Model T automobile. However, one topic seemed very interesting to us. This was the Chinese Boxer Rebellion 1899-1900. We did some research on this possible topic and were also attracted by this topic because China plays an important role in manufacturing goods. During our background research, we learned that the Boxers were threatening to eliminate all foreign ideals and people from China. We thought that if the Boxers had succeeded in their attempt, China could have possibly been very different today. Due to this, we chose the Chinese Boxer Rebellion as our topic because of the threats to the future if the Boxers had won. We conducted our research by collecting diverse resources relating to our topic. We went to the University of South Florida research library. For example, we found a book with personal records of the Chinese Boxer Rebellion. We discovered many websites at the University. Our sources are mostly online but vary from having newspapers, books, cartoons, periodicals, and interviews. We had a combined total of 56 sources, over half were primary. We used the library of national archives for primary documents based on the Chinese Boxer Rebellion. Our research was thoroughly conducted, as intended; we learned essential knowledge on the Boxer Rebellion. Our project was made by first brainstorming the page names of our website and, in the end, how it should look. We chose the theme because China at the time was not very modernized and the pen quill and ink was tools that China used at the time. Our project focused on two topics, the reaction and the reform of the Chinese Boxer Rebellion. Our website has a song that plays on the Index page that is by the Brothers Four and it is about the 55 days in Peking. We then go on to the next page which gives a brief summary of what the Chinese Boxer Rebellion is, the rebellion page. Our projects information was taken by using the websites note cards and other

brief pieces of information we read and wrote in our own words. We used quotes from websites by authors that have analyzed documents of this event and we have some information from books about the event during the time it took place Our topic relates to the theme of Revolution, Reaction, Reform In History, because the Chinese Boxer Rebellion caused political and religious reaction and reform during and after the rebellion. For example, the rebellion resulted in China Versus The World. This meant that when China declared war against the foreigners, other countries strongly reacted to this by sending soldiers to fight against the Boxers. Also, there was many political and religious reforms were created after the Boxers lost. The Boxer Protocol was created by the Qing Dynasty, in order to keep peace with the foreigners and to accept other religions. The Chinese Boxer Rebellion resulted in many reactions and reforms, politically and religiously.
