1st Amendment Intent-to protect freedom of religion, freedom of speech and press, freedom to peacefully assemble, and petition

government to address grievances Meaning- to uphold the rights of citizens, including those of a minority, and freedoms that Americans enjoy. The rights can be interpreted differently among people, but overall they serve to protect citizens against going against their beliefs when it is reasonable. Importance- the First Amendment is important because it represents all the freedoms that the Constitution guarantees us. It protects citizens rights (when reasonable) and prevents anyone from taking those rights away. Impact- p.45 1st Amendment rights were written during the American Revolution because British had abused these rights. The 1st Amendment had a definite impact on America because they allowed people from all religions to come over and practice their religion in America, to give everyone the right to print what they wanted
