Mohamed Adnan 7+8 Cell essay 2 The amount of solution in each flask can simply be determined by setting up a dialysis

chamber. A) A sample from each flask can be taken and placed in a sac that has a semipermeable membrane. For example, we could take a quarter Liter sample from each flask and put them into four different sacs. Then, the sacs can be submerged in a beaker full of distilled water. The sacs would be allowed to sit for 30 minutes. Afterwards, the flasks would be examined to see which one had swelled up the most and which one had swelled the least. The one that had swell the most had the higher molarity. B) The sample with the 0.8 M would have had shown a sac that would be swelled up. The 0.2 M solution would have the sac that had minimal change. C) The sac swells up because of the difference in molarity of the solutions inside the sac and outside the sac. Molarity is the concentration measured by the number of moles of solute per liter of solution. The water moves in when there is high molarity in the bag. This action is called osmosis and that is when water moves from an area of high concentration to a low concentration of water through a membrane. Additionally, the solution moves out through diffusion. This action is when substances and molecules move out of a membrane from high to low concentration. The water moves into the bag which causes it to swell up and this shows us which flask had the highest molarity.
