Guest of Honor, our dear and respected Prof. R. B. Misra & Head of the Centre Prof.V.N.A Naikan & other Faculty members, Distinguished Invitees, Staff Members, research scholars, post Graduate Students, Ladies and Gentlemen: a very good morning to all of you. Its indeed a tremendous privilege to be standing here today to welcome you to this special morning for the celebration of two major events. Firstly diamond jubilee celebrations of IIT kharagpur. Secondly research scholars day of reliability Engg. centre. The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is an autonomous engineering, technology and management oriented institute of higher education established formally by the government of India in 1951. IIT kharagpur, which is a pioneer of the iit system is now sixty years old. In this regard the institute has geared up to celebrate its diamond jubilee in a grand manner during 18 august 2011 till 18 august 2012. Reliability engineering centre, which is relatively new comparing with all other departments was established in 1983. It is the first, only and unique centre of excellence in india offering masters and research programs in reliability engineering. Our Centre is one of the smallest academic centers of the Institute. However, during its successful journey of 28 years the reliability engineering centre has produced 25 Ph. d students and around 300 post graduates. The reliability centre has also organized research scholars day consecutively for two times starting from the academic year 2009-10 to facilitate the research scholars in sharing and exposing their research work, and for acknowledging their contribution in befitting manner. With this short introduction I would like to request our respected head of the centre prof V N A naikan to welcome the gathering . Thanks for your pleasant welcome speech sir. Now I am so glad to introduce our honorable chief guest Deen of post gradute studies and research Prof.P K J Mohapatra. Prof. P k J Mohapatra joined IIT Kharagpur in 1973. He is one of the distinguished professors from Industrial engineering and management department. He has contributed to enumerable number of national as well as international journals. It is my indeed privilege to welcome Prof.P K J Mohapatra to address the gathering.

Thanks for your valuable speech sir. Its very inspiring and informative. Now I would like to request everyone to proceed for the Tea break. Later part of the section will be consisting guest lectures. I am so pleased to have the chance to introduce our guest of Honor, prof.R.B.misra. Prof.R B Misra joined reliability centre as professor in 1998 from department of electrical engineering, IIT Kharagpur. He joined IIT Kharagpur as assistant professor at electrical engineering department in 1984. Before coming to IIT Kharagpur , he had working experience at irrigation and power department, government of maharashtra as junior engineer of approximately 3 years, at institute of technology, banaras Hindu university as lecturer of approximately a year and at university of roorkee as lecturer of approximaly 8 years. With this small introduction I request all of you to join me in welcoming Prof.R.b.Misra to address you this morning with his words of wisdom.
