MaglevTrains

MaglevTrainsreferstotheuseofmagnetsincorporatedintothetrackandbodyoftheTrain, usedtolevitateatrainabovethetrack.Theideaofamaglevtrainhasbeenaroundforalongtome,asa trainwithnofrictionbetweenitandthetrack,butonlyrecentlyhastechnologymadeitpossibleforthis concepttobecomeareality.Recentdevelopmentshavesplitthetypesofmaglevtrainsintotwomain categories,whichbothusetheattractiveandrepulsiveforcesbetweentwomagneticfieldsindifferent waysbywhichtopropelandlevitatethetrain. TheElectromagneticSuspensionmaglev(EMS)useselectromagnets,acoilofmetalthathasan electriccurrentmovingthroughit,tosuspendthetrain,andpropelit.Bychangingthepolarityofan electromagnetinfrontofthetrain,thetrackpullstheundercarriagealong,whilechangingamagnetin therearofthetrainhelpspushitalong.AGermanCompany,Transrapid,hasbeentestingaEMStrain whichincorporatesawraparoundbody,topreventderailmentathighspeeds,aswellassetting magnetsunderneaththetrack. AnotherstyleofmaglevtrainusestheElectrodynamicSuspensionsystem(EDS),whichuses cooled,superconductingmagnets,whichworkevenwithnopowerrunningtroughthem.Thoughthis methodusedlesspower,thecoolingofthesuperconductorscanbedifficult,aswellasexpensive.A JapaneseCompanyhasdevelopedatypeofEDStrackcalledInductrack,whichusesroomtemperature magnetsinsteadofcooledsuperconductors.OnedrawbacktotheEDSsystem,isthatthetrainhasto runonrubberwheelsuntilitreachesaspeedof60mph.
