Press Release 10th ID gears up with 162 new privates

CAMP PANACAN, Davao City- To further upgrade 10th Infantry Divisions subordinate units capability, 162 new privates were distributed to seven battalions on Tuesday evening in a send-off ceremony in Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr., Tuboran, Mawab, ComVal. This is to help boost personnel fill-up and readiness, which will further enhance the present gains and successes of the Peace and Development Outreach Program (PDOP) of 10th ID, 10th ID Commander Maj. Gen. Jorge V. Segovia said. According to him, the new privates are graduates from the candidate soldier course who underwent six months of rigorous physical trainings as part of the basics in military entry and they were initially deployed for PDOP in Comval province prior to this deployment. To ensure that all units would have a fair chance of choosing their own personnel, we decided to have the first ever drafts pick for the purpose of rationalization, he added. Prior to the distribution, new privates were grouped based on their capability or skills and this is the basis in allocating them to respective units. 31 new privates were assigned to 28th Infantry Battalion; 29 for 66th IB; 28 in 27th IB; 22 for 39th IB; 16 in 73rd IB and 12 to 60th IB. According to 10th ID, among the 162 new privates, 12 or 7.4% were college graduates; 62 or 38.27% are on college level; 17 or 10.49% took vocational courses and 71 or 43.82% are high school graduates. Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza, 10th ID Spokesperson, said that on July 2011, almost 5, 000 applicants for Philippine Army Aptitude Test Battery (PAATB) flocked in UM Matina Campus for the said examination. Then examinees, who came mostly from Barangays, Sitios and Municipalities of Davao Region and other neighbouring places, reach only up to 700-800, but now, because of the efficacy of our peace efforts thru PDOP, the trust rating of residents in communities on the soldiers is overwhelming.
