oxyhemoglobin (ks-hm-glbn) n. Hemoglobin in combination with oxygen, present in arterial blood. Also called ox ygenated hemoglobin.

carbaminohemoglobin, a chemical complex formed by carbon dioxide and hemoglobin after the release of oxygen by the hemoglobin to a tissue cell. The action is similar to that of the formation of a carbamino compound. It accounts for nearly 25% of the carbon diox ide released in the lung. Also spelled carbaminohaemoglobin. Carboxyhemoglobin: Hemoglobin that has carbon monoxide instead of the normal oxy gen bound to it. Carbon monoxide has a much great affinity than oxygen for hemog lobin. Carboxyhemoglobin is formed in carbon monoxide poisoning. The source of t he carbon monoxide may be exhaust (such as from a car, truck, boat or generator) , smoke from a fire, or tobacco smoke. The level of carboxyhemoglobin is a measu re of the degree of carbon monoxide exposure. Methemoglobin is an abnormal hemoglobin where the iron molecule is in the ferric state (Fe ) rather than the ferrous state (Fe ). a soluble brown crystalline basic blood pigment that differs from hemoglobin in containing ferric iron and in being unable to combine reversibly with molecular oxygen
