Experimental Procedure

3.1 Preparation of Sample Different diameter sizes of sand were used as samples. To determine its mesh number and corresponding diameter size range, the sand was sieved using different sizes of sieve. Sieves are arranged in ascending mesh number from top to bottom placing one sieve on the top of the other. Three different particle sizes were taken as samples.

3.2 Determination of Density In determining the density of the sand, volume displacement method was used.

3.3 Experiment Distilled water was poured in a 1000mL graduated cylinder. Water height was recorded. A pinch of sample was dropped in the graduated cylinder filled with distilled water and the time elapsed was also recorded by starting the time as the sand was dropped and ending the time when the last bit of sand reached the bottom of the graduated cylinder. Same procedure was used for the rest of the samples. Two trials were done for the three samples.
