Tuesday, 10 January 2012 15:48 Mizzima News (Mizzima) More border crossing points between Burma and Thailand are likely to open soon to facilitate business and tourism, as a result of Burmas top generals visit to Thailand. Other topics discussed Monday between Thai Defence Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa and Burmas military chief General Min Aung Hlaing in Bangkok included cooperation in military, economic and sports relations, The Bangkok Post reported on Monday. Thailand would also repair damaged river embankments along the Moei River in Burmas Myawaddy province, opposite Mae Sot, Thailand, and Mawaddy, Burma, the paper said. A dispute over erosion and other factors led to the closing of the border crossing point, now reopened. Yutthasak, who is president of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, said Burma asked for advice in hosting the 27th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in 2013. MCOT online news quoted Defense Minister Yutthasak saying, To bolster ties of the two countries, both are considering opening additional border checkpoints, particularly in Thailands Kanchanaburi bordering Dawei in Myanmar. The two neighbours are cooperating in developing the deep-sea port (in Dawei).
