Amateur Broadcast for Experimental Television Awards or best known as ABET Awards is an event that gives commendations to the short films and music videos of the students enrolled in Mass Communications.

They said that it all started in the year 2001, when a group of Josenians got an idea of sponsoring an awarding celebration in recognition of the music videos and short films that the 3rd year Mass Communications students of that particular batch had made with all effort and creativity. After that, the said event was agreed to be done yearly by the Mass Communications students in the University of San Jose- Recoletos. And on February 18, 2011, the 10th ABET Awards was held in the Center for Performing Arts, University of San Jose- Recoletos and was organized by the Mass Communications Coordinates. It is an event were students showcases their talents and knowledge through video-making; music videos, drama or indie short films. Honestly, I have never attended this event before; however I have known this through word-of-mouth and from my Mass Communications classmates and friends. I did my research, I asked queries to those people I know, about ABET Awards and gathered most of the information that I need.

Some of the awards given are Best in Concept for Music Video, Music Video of the Year, Best in Cinematography, Best Performer, Best in Production Design, Best in Poster, Students Choice Award and many more. ABET Awards is known not just inside the University of San Jose- Recoletos itself but also outside the campus. The said event was being published in some newspapers with a lot of good remarks. Every year, awards are handed out by well-meaning groups for outstanding achievement just like ABET awards. In my opinion, this is another positive way of motivating a person to keep doing their best and to encourage them even more. It is indeed a very interesting event. And with everything that I have gathered, I am absolutely looking forward for the upcoming Amateur Broadcast for Experimental Television Awards.
