Dear Parents/Guardians, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

My name is Trevor Mickelson and I am a student teacher in your childs American History class with Mr. Carlson. I am currently earning my Masters of Arts in Teaching at Drake University with an endorsement in allsocial sciences. As parents/guardians, I thought it was important for you to get to know me and the role that I will have in your childs education. I am originally from Duncombe, Iowa, which is near Fort Dodge. I graduated from Iowa State University in 2009 and moved to Des Moines shortly thereafter to pursue a graduate degree in education. While earning my degree I have worked as a freshman assistant basketball coach at a local high school and served as a substitute teacher in both the Waukee and Urbandale School Districts. Both of these jobs have been great opportunities and provided me with valuable experiences in and out of the classroom that I think will benefit your student and myself while I am working with Mr. Carlson. I will be spending eight weeks in Mr. Carlsons classroom helping him and your student. The first few weeks I will simply be observing him and becoming more comfortable with the procedures of the class. As the term progresses, I will begin to take more of a prominent role in the classroom until the final few weeks in which I will be the primary teacher. After eight weeks, I will be switching classrooms to work with another teacher at the high school but will still help out Mr. Carlson every now and again. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first few weeks of the term and I am eager for the opportunity to work with all the students for the next several weeks. If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me via e-mail and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks!
