Inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormones; partially inhibits the peripheral conversion of T4 to T3 the more potent form thyroid hormone.

Hyperthyroidism Unlabeled use: reduces mortality associated with alcoholic liver disease

CNS: - Paresthesias, drowsiness, depression, headache. Dermathologic: - skin rash, pruritus, loss of hair GI: - nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress GU: - nephritis Hematologic: agranulocytosis, bleeding, aplastic anemia

Allergy to antithyroid drugs, pregnancy (can induce hypothyroidism or cretinism in the fetus). Use cautiously with lactation (if antithyroid drug is needed, this is the drug of choice)

Take this drug around the clock at 8hour intervals. Arrange for regular, periodic blood tests to monitor bone marrow depression and bleeding tendencies.

Allergy to antithyroid products, pregnancy (use only if absolutely necessary and when mother has been informed about potential harm to the fetus) Use cautiously with bone marrow depression.

Take this drug around the clock at 8hour intervals. Arrange for regular, periodic blood tests to monitor bone marrow depression and bleeding tendencies. Using barrier contraceptives is advised while taking this drug; serious fetal abnormalities may occur.
