Invisible Final Essay Assignment This unit, we have talked a lot about the themes and techniques used

in the novel Invisible. Now, its time to put it all together. For Monday, January 30, write a 750-word essay in which you respond to the following question: Big Question: Using evidence from the novel to support your claim, to what extent does Invisible have value for study in our school curriculum? This is a thesis-driven essay, which means you take a position on the issue, and prove that claim with specific, detailed evidence from the novel and of an explanation of how the evidence supports your thesis. A hint in putting together your thesis: what makes any book valuable for study? (Think about the things we discussed/you wrote down during our opening discussion. It might be helpful to come up with a checklist, then compare this book to that checklist). Your essay should include: y Introductory paragraph where you: o Hook the reader o Introduce the overall topic of the essay o Make your claim (thesis) Body paragraphs (3?) where you: o prove your claim through specific avenues of defense, o Support those with evidence, including specific text evidence (quotes) Conclusion where you emphasize the main point of your argument and recap the evidence briefly and convincingly

This essay is worth 100 points. It will be scored according to the rubric on the back. You will have three class days to work on this essay (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, January 2527). This means you will more than likely have to work on it out of class. It is due in class on Monday, January 30 (or, if you are sharing it on Google Docs, by class time). No exceptions. Standard late policy applies.
