Outlining our target audience

Our original target audience for our product (music video and print products) would be those who fell in-between the ages of 14 to 25. We found this age appropriate as this is the age where most people discover the music they like and begin to purchase music for themselves. We also used GRASS, a clever demographic profiling technique, in order to find out more about the audience we would be targeting.
Gender As our artist is female and is an acoustic rock artist (where no female gaze is used) our artist may appeal to more females than males, however as the point of our artist is talent, the gender targeted is nonspecific. The artist is white, however; as the music is considered mainstream we did not exclude any other races. As previously stated, we targeted those aged between 14 and 25 as this is the age people begin to branch out into other songs. We also considered that the song is links into rock music which a much younger audience, from 9 to 14, wouldnt enjoy. The majority of the age range, allows me to look at the socio-economic status of their parents, which may fall anywhere between A, which is the higher class, and D, the lower working class. However, as the age range covers those who are in University, we also had to apply to a student which, due to the money they earn, the highest they can get to is D, the lower working class.

To look further into our target audience, we looked at Psychographic Profiling, created by Young and Rubicam, who thought that any audience could easily be split into four different types of people, depending on their life outlooks and attitudes. Out of the four groups, Mainstreamers, Aspirers, Succeeders and Reformers, we found that our artist and products (music video and print products) would mostly be targeted at Mainstreamers and Aspirers.

Why Mainstreamers? - They are 40% of an audience - They often by well-known brands and products - They create friendships through both parties liking the mainstream product (example: if The Beatles was at number one and someone bought their single and then saw a stranger in their school wearing Beatles t-shirt, chances are, they would later become friends.)

Why Aspirers? - Usually are motivated by status (similar to the Mainstreamers in that aspect.) - Easily influenced by those who they look up to (example: if a girl, interested in music, aged 16 watch our music video they would probably want to learn how to play guitar afterwards.)
