INDIVIDUAL REPORT (SINGLE LETTER FORM)

THE EASTERN INDIA WATCH COMPANY LTD. 25, TAGORE ROAD, KOLKATA 700 035 15th January, 2007 The Directors

Sub: Report on the workers unrest at the Companys factory Dear Sir, In accordance with the instructions given to me on 22nd December, 2006, I visited the factory in order to find out the causes of unrest among our workers. The chief mechanic, the head of the supervisory staff and fifteen workers were interviewed in this connection. The prevailing unrest is due to the following factors: 1. The number of incidents of the breach of discipline and general non-co-operative attitude among the newly appointed workers has gone up considerably. 2. The number of supervisors is inadequate. New workers complain that they are compelled to work for longer hours. Besides, old and skilled workers behave rudely with them, and work procedures are not explained properly. 3. The new workers complain that the wages paid to them are lower as compared to the wages paid to their counterparts in other companies in the area It is therefore suggested that: i. An immediate and proper action be taken to prevent further disturbance ii. At least five more supervisors should be appointed and all the supervisors should be strictly advised to guide the new workers. iii. The present Personnel Officer, Mr. TL Banerjee should be transferred to our factory at Larkhana and in his place, Mr. BN Chatterjee should be promoted. This will create an atmosphere of confidence and co-operation and iv. The new workers should be paid Rs. 50.00 per day, which will bring them at par with their counterparts in other factories in our area.

v. It is my considered opinion that the suggestions given above will go a long way in removing the present discontent and unrest. Yours faithfully, Ajay Mukherjee PRO
