In this play this is Alfieri and he is who Eddie, the ego, turns to for advice. The superego is constantly pushing Eddie to make the right moral decisions to save himself and his family. However Eddie rebels against the super ego and blindly carries out the will of his id.

Ego

Eddie is the ego as all the way through the play he is

faced with moral decisions and has to make the choice on whether to follow his superego, Alfieri, or his id, lust. In the end he follows his id and perishes as a result.

Id

Eddie s lust is the main id of the play as he fullfils his lustful desires by phoning the immigration in the hope of having Catherine to himself even though he is aware of the risky consequences of his actions as foreshadowed by Eddie in the Story Vinny Bolzano
