VHF/UHF SECTION

INSTRUCTOR: Sir Ishaq (Electronic Engineer) DURATION: 26TH DEC, 2011-28TH DEC, 2011 JOB OF VHF/UHF SECTION: Installation and maintenance of VHF transceivers and FM repeaters.

INTRODUCTION: VHF stands for VERY HIGH FREQUENCY and UHF stands for ULTRA HIGH FREQUENCY. VHF is used for communication between controller and the pilot or between controller and with any automobile driver near aircraft which are at runway and come under CAA. Basically VHF is used for AIR TO GROUND COMMUNICATION. The frequency band allocated to VHF is about 118.0MHz-136MHz.This is also called the AVIATION BAND. A network of VHF ground radio stations ensure that aircraft can communicate with ground end systems in real-time from practically anywhere in the world. VHF communication is line-of-sight, and provides communication with groundbased transceivers. Using the unique propagation characteristics of high-frequency radio waves, the ground stations provide data link communications to properly equipped aircraft operating anywhere in the world. The result: pilots can always communicate with someone on the ground. Now UHF is also used for ground to ground communication. It is normally used in air force and for the military purpose. The frequency band allocated to UHF is about 230MHz-300MHz.

MODES OF VHF: VHF AM: It is the first type of VHF. It is used for communication between controller and the pilot. VHF is used for air to ground communication. VHF FM: t is the second mode of VHF. It is used for communication between controller and any automobile under CAA. VHF is used for ground to ground communication.

DATA LINK MESSAGES TYPES: Communication may be done by using three types of messages. These are: Air Traffic Control (ATC): ATC messages are used to communicate between the aircraft and Air traffic control. Aeronautical Operational Control (AOC): ATC messages are used by aircraft crew to request clearances, and by ground controllers to provide those clearances. Airline Administrative Control (AAC): AOC and AAC messages are used to communicate between the aircraft and its base.
