Nicknamed Sparky, Schulz grew up in Saint Paul, MN. He started his artistic career when he drew a picture of his dog Spike who ate unusual things and send it to Ripley's Believe it or Not! His drawing showed up in Robert Ripleys Syndicated panel saying A hunting dog that eats pins, tacks and razor blades.

Other things
In high school the school rejected his drawings for the yearbook. He was drafted into the Military. He only drew the comics he didnt do any of the T.V show and movies. He and Charlie Brown had many similarities. He received a Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame.

Peanuts
As I said he started his career drawing his dog but then he went on to drawing comic strips which started Peanuts. It first appeared on Oct. 2 1950 and became one of the most famous comic strips of all times . He had a few other comic strips but he had to drop them because Peanuts was becoming so big.

Influences
Schulz named many of his characters off of childhood friends. He had such a unique drawing style that there really wasnt anyone that influenced the way he drew. There were two people that helped continue his comic stripes, Milton Caniff and Bill Mauldin.

Awards
Schulz received a congressional gold medal. He won the national cartoonists societys comic strip award. He was in the United states Hockey hall of fame. Received a Hollywood Star.
