 Self-inflating

tyres are designed inorder to constantly maintain the tyre pressure. improves safety of an automobile in times of emergency caused by perforation(by nails, screws, thorns etc..,)or by any other deformation.

 This

Hence the friction created is greater. Friction creates heat and if enough heat is generated the rubber that holds the tire cords melts and tire trails. Because of the extra resistance an under inflated tyre has when it rolls, the cars engine has to work harder. As it effects mileage it can cause severe loss in the cost considerations.

The picture shows the tyre wear caused by over and under inflation in comparison with proper inflation.

 Peristaltic

self-inflating tyre system(PSITS) is based on the peristaltic pump principle.

 The

PSITS uses a valve that pulls in air from the atmosphere.

 It

then pumps the air into the under-inflated tyre using a peristaltic pump action. goal is to constantly maintain a specific pressure inside the tyre.

 The

 A peristaltic

pump is a positive displacement pump used for pumping a variety of fluids. fluid is contained within a flexible tube fitted inside a circular pump.

 The

A rotor with a number of cams(rollers) attached to the external circumference of tube. As the rotor turns, the part of tube under compression closes thus forcing the fluid to be pumped to move through the tube. After passing of the cam fluid flow is induced to the pump. This process is called peristalsis.

No contamination. Low maintenance needs They are able to handle slurries,viscous,shear-sensitive and aggrewsive fluids. Pump design prevents backflow and syphoning without valves.

The PSITS consists of four main parts: 1.Air valves 2.Reservoir part 3.peristaltic part 4.casing(outer cover)

The air valves used in PSITS is a common type of air valve, which lets the air in and doesnot let it out.

They are set such that after attaining specific pressure the intake of air is stopped and thus making the inflation stop.

The reservoir acts as a storehouse of the air drawn and supplies air when there is sudden drop in pressure of the tyre. This helps in maintaining a constant pressure of air. Its main function is to supply the necessary large volume when there is any sudden deformation in the tyre.

The peristaltic part is the thin tube, which is pressed by the roller or vane which is placed within the casing of the PSITS. The roller or vane is designed to suit the curve of the tyre. The volume of the vane determines the volume of the air pumped into the tyre per revolution of the pump system.

The casing is the outer part covering the peristaltic part of the PSITS. It also serves as the rim to hold the tyre in place. The casing has the property of withstanding the pressure of the peristaltic pump and provides proper support to the tyre.

STEP 1: The inlet valve situated takes in atmospheric air. STEP 2: The air taken in stored in the reservoir part. STEP 3: Air inside the reservoir part is taken inside the peristaltic part by the rollers. STEP 4: The rollers compress the air inside the thin tube and air is pushed through the outlet valve connected to the tube of the tyre.

 STEP 5:

When the tyre reaches its optimum pressure the inlet valve gets closed and thus constant pressure is maintained in the tyre. The following steps are repeated for every revolution of the tyre.

 STEP 6:

SETTING

THE PSITS CRITICAL PRESSURE

This is the most important part which determines the capacity of the system. Critical pressure ratio is determined by the ratio between the total volume of the tube and the reservoirr volume of the tube.

Increases car stability and reduces the danger of blowouts. Improves the fuel efficiency. Improves a tyres lifespan.

 ENVIRONMENT

FRIENDLINESS Less carbondioxide is released.

Less tyre debris litters the roadways.

The PSITS will automatically inflate the tire to the proper pressure. This will allow your car to drive with a nail or screw in the tire until the vehicle comes to a complete stop and then the tire may safely deflate. This can be coupled with a tire monitoring systems to maintain a safe and comfortable driving experience.
