Neuburger Comp 102-101 3 February 2012 Lars Eighner On Dumpster Diving

Lars Eighners On Dumpster Diving describes his life as a dumpster diver and all the people and things he runs into while living on the streets. In Eighners essay, he states indirectly that Americans are wasteful. Eighner lives off the things he finds in the Dumpsters, after scavenging through them. Most of the time diving in Dumpsters leads to finding good things, and these things Eighner finds, he eats them or keeps and treasures them. Eighner says in his essay that students are the most wasteful during certain times of the year. He states, Some students and others, approach defrosting a freezer by chucking our whole lot. Americans need to watch what is being thrown out, and if it is still good or just has a little mold on it, such as cheese, cut it off. Throwing away something fixable is wastefulness and this would be why America wastes so many products that are still good. Eighner says I have heard of people maliciously contaminating discarded food and even handouts If something is not good to us as Americans, we should not damage it purposely so that someone else cannot use it.
