February 13, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kennedy High School and the Kennedy Athletic Department will be having a reception on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, to recognize six Kennedy athletes who have made the decision to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. The reception will start at 2:55 pm in the high school cafeteria. Cody Bell UNI, golf: Cody has been a 1st team all-Metro, 1st team all-MVC, and 2nd team all-State golfer for the Cougars. During his career at Kennedy, the Cougars have placed 4th (2009 & 2011), 3rd (2008), and 2nd (2010). Cody has been an integral part of each of those highly successful teams. Cody is also an all-MVC baseball player and varsity starter on Kennedys basketball team. Alex Hayden Iowa Central, baseball: Alex earned 2nd team all-State honors as a pitcher during the 2011 baseball season for the Cougars as a junior a season in which the Cougars qualified for the state tournament. Alex has also been a starter on the Kennedy basketball team during his senior campaign. Trevor Heitland Iowa Central, football: Trevor had outstanding junior and senior seasons for the Cougars as a multi-purpose running back, earning 1st team all-Metro and all-MVC honors this past fall in leading the Cougars to the IHSAA state playoffs. Trevor is also a starter for the Kennedy basketball team this winter as well as a sprinter on the Kennedy track & field team. Jimmy Lizarraga Iowa Central, football: Jimmy was a 1st team all-MVC and all-Metro quarterback for the playoff qualifying Cougars this past fall. Lizarraga is also a starting catcher for the Cougar baseball team. Devon Jacobus Grand View, baseball: Devon earned 1st team all-Metro and all-MVC honors as well as 1st team all-State recognition as an infielder for Coach Hoyers Cougars last summer. Jacobus has also participated in track & field for the Cougars. Josh Jahlas Iowa State University, football: Josh is a four sport athlete for the Cougars. He earned 1st team all-Metro, all-MVC, and all-State honors this past fall in football. He is also a key member of our basketball team, a state qualifier in track and field, and a starting outfielder for the Cougars in baseball. Please feel free to join us in the Kennedy cafeteria to congratulate them on their high school accomplishments and wish them best of luck as they continue their careers beyond Kennedy.
