State of Montana Disaster Recovery Drill 6/21 & 6/22, 2005 Sungard Recovery Site-Philadelphia, PA Report to ITMC

Due to other project priorities, the original goals of the June, 2005 Disaster Recovery drill were rewritten, and the recovery team dramatically curtailed, 30 days prior to departure. Objectives Utilize the remote command center at Airport Road, to perform multiple recovery steps, for the first time. Recover the total mainframe environment (Attachmate thin client server, online systems, Linux). Demonstrate the ability to send and receive data to the States mainframe at SunGard, via the internet. Restore all SABHRS databases. Obtain certification of the States procedures for building ESX environments and mainframe recovery procedures.

In accomplishing these goals several significant accomplishments were achieved. These include: First time use of a third party air shipment for over 400 pounds of Disaster Recovery tapes from the vault. First time full D/R network implementation on day one of the drill. Mainframe recovery procedures were enhanced by SunGard System Engineers to further improve the mainframes recovery window. The mainframe recovery objective was 2:00 hours. This task took 1:40 minutes. The suggested improvements may take recovery to 1:00 hour. First time use of SunGard Automated Tape Library.
