Educational - there are programs like the discovery channel, and just certain TV shows like Sesame Street,

that are filled with facts. I think everyone at one point in time has sat down, turned on the discovery channel, to watch about some sort of documentary on a species of animal. Also, there are game shows that require a basic knowledge of things in order to play (like Jeopardy). Social - there are still families who sit together and watch tv together. Even if the family chooses to stay quiet, they are bonding by watching something of similar interest. Also, there are shows where people will turn around and discuss things they saw to their friends "Did you watch Hero's last night? What do you think will happen next?" Thinking - There are shows out that you watch, and instead of just watching it, you are pulled into the story and try to figure out the story. I remember watching Hero's, trying to figure out what would happen next, or who did what, or who can just plain do what, and converse it with my friends until the show came back on. Imagination - sci-fi/fantasy shows more so fall into this category than all the others. When you get done watching a sci-fi/fantasy show, it can help a person have an active and creative mind and put themselves in their shoes. Some of these shows can even influence people into creating artwork, music, and literature. Learning - more and more, there are shows popping up to help little kids learn things. I have two kids myself, a moderately-severe autistic 7 y/o boy, and a 4 y/o girl. They amaze me every day with what they have learned from TV. Health/Food - there are food network shows, and programs to help better manage your health/weight. My mother-in-law is obsessed with watching the food network, and she has learned to make a few dishes from simply watching these shows.
