DEAR is a programme that has been introduced in various forms in many secondary schools throughout Australia. Drop Everything And Read programme, is a regular fixture set aside in the classroom schedules for both students and their teachers to "drop everything and read.." D. E. A. R. time conveniently accommodates a variety of student interests and ability levels, since each student selects for himself or herself

What is D.E.A.R

The general aim of the programme is to create independent and empowered wide readers, within a framework of choice, freedom and enjoyment.

Expose children to a variety of reading genres Teach students how to find suitable books in the library Allow children a high degree of control over their reading selections It gives students an array of timely opportunities to read what they want to read Share what they've read with each other

The advantages of D.E.A.R

the teacher will say Drop Everything and Read y the students do just that. y They drop whatever they are working on, y pick up their favorite book, y curl up in the book corner y just read for a given amount of time.

GETTING STARTED

Explain how it works, y provide great books and cozy places to read, y just say DEAR time y and let everyone begin.
