Extraction of DNA From Union : LDK BIO EXPERIMENT 2

Material and Tools Blended union with added of water, salt and dish washing liquid (Homemade) Beaker Strainer ( Penapis ) Bunsen Burner and Stirring . Tripod Stand With Wire Gauze Petri Dish Ethanol

1. Pour the mixture into the beaker . 2. Heat the mixture for about 1-2 minutes using tripod stand and wire gauze , stirring it from time to time . 3. Put the tea strainer on other beaker and filter the mixture. 4. Take the ethanol in a petri dish . Pour the filterate gently into ethanol. 5. Observe the DNA strands appering in the ethanol .

EXPLANATION : What is DNA ?

DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACIS (DNA) is the genetic material of all organisms. It is the master molecule whose needed to create and direct the chemical machinery of life . DNA is composed of units called nucleotides. The nucleotides join together to form a chain. Within cells, DNA is organized into structures called chromosomes.

The detergent in the mixture causes the cell membrane to break down and
emulsifies the lipids and proteins of the cell. DNA is not soluble in ethanol and can be isolated as a thick, stringy, white mass.
