Elevated levels of glucose in the blood stimulates cells of the pancreas to increase insulin secretion into the blood

The pancreas produces insulin, yet insulin resistance prevents its proper use at the cellular level

Increased production of glucose by the liver

Altered pancreatic insulin secretion

Glucose cannot enter target cells and accumulates in the bloodstream, resulting in hyperglycemia
