What is ESI?

The Employees State Insurance Scheme is an integrated measure of Social Insurance which is designed to protect the employees against the hazards of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to insured persons and their families.

How ESI assists us



An interruption of money income even for a small period is, a hardship. By coming forward to provide health protection and income maintenance in a series of contingencies like sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injure. The Employees State Insurance Scheme tends to reduce your economic anxiety by providing economic support.

Whom does the Scheme protect?



 

The Scheme protects all employees engaged on a monthly remuneration not exceeding Rs. 15000/- in a factory/establishment to which the Act applies. Persons employed for wages on any work connected with the administration of the factory or establishment or purchase of raw materials, or distribution or sale of the product of a factory or establishment are also covered. The scheme also provides full medical cover to the dependants of insured persons. In the event of death of an insured person due to employment injury dependants become eligible to cash benefit.

hat are the rates of contribution?



An employee covered under the scheme has to contribute 1.75% of the wages. An employer contributes 4.75% of the wages payable to an employee. The total contribution in respect of an employee thus works out to 6.50% of the wages payable.

Medical benefits:a) Full medical facilities for self and dependants are admissible from day one of entering insurable employment. b) Whereas, the primary, out patient in patient and specialist services are provided through a network of panel clinics, ESI dispensaries and hospitals, super specialty services are provided through a large number of advanced empanelled medical institutions on referral basis.
