Voice for the Stage Imagery in a text People communicate not only with words, but also with

the images and feelings "underneath" the words they speak. A text will have those images implied and it is the actor's job to "create" those images to send. An actor can connect to a text by finding the images implied in the text and making them significant. If you make the images "personal," you will have more investment in the text, and will be more involved in the text. Before you decide "how to do a piece," see what mood or feelings the images stir up in you. Look for images in the following poem and isolate them with brackets. ( Tyger)

The Tyger William Blake

Tyger, tyger burning bright, In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What hand dare seize the fire?
