y The Civil Code of the Philippines deals with personal

and family relations, property, obligations and contracts of individuals y Civil Code- collection of laws which regulate the private relations of the members of civil society, determining their respective rights and obligations with reference to persons, things and civil acts

y The Civil Code of the Philippines consists of 2,270

articles which are divided as follows: 1. Preliminary Title- Article 1-36 2. Book 1- Persons, Family Code 3. Book II- Property, Ownership and its modifications 4. Book IV- Obligations and Contracts 5. Transitional Provisions 6. Repealing Clause

y The Family Code is the law concerning: a. Marriage b. Legal separation c. Rights and obligations d. Property relations between husband and wife e. Family f. Paternity and filiation g. Support h. Parental authority i. Emancipation and age majority. It amends and

supersedes the provisions of the Civil Code (NCC) on those subjects

y To revise the provisions of the Civil Code on marriage

and family relations bringing them closer to Filipino customs, values, ideals and reflect contemporary trends and conditions y To implement policies embodied in the new constitution that strengthen marriage and the family as basic social institutions and ensure equality between men and women
