Mark Adkisson English III Introduction February 21, 2012 Introduction For many years there has been an ongoing battle in American public school systems, the battle between science and creationism. The Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925 played a big part in raising conflict over science and creationism which emotionally divided America's population and rose many anti-evolution movements. Many will argue that creationism should be taught in public school curriculum alongside, or without, evolution, but there are many problems with teaching creationism in public school science classes. Problems would arise such as evolution contradicting the creationist view and the state respecting an establishment of religion, which is prohibited by the First Amendment. Creationism being taken out of public school curricula was the correct thing to do.
